MaLizze is a goose. She lives on a farm. 
MaLizze is a Toulouse goose because long 
ago her ancestors came from Toulouse in 
France. MaLizze likes to do many things 
on her farm. 
She likes to eat tender green grass blades. 
She likes to drink water. 
She likes to swim on top of the water in 
the lake and play submarine with her 
friends Huff'n'Puff, the drake and Squeak, 
his wife. 
One day after MaLizze ate all she could eat 
and drank all she could drink she waddled down 
to the small stream for a swim. 
She steps into the water and is deciding whether 
she will take a swim first or play submarine 
when her friends Huff'n'Puff and his wife, 
Squeak, swim out from behind some bushes. 
"Honk! Honk!" MaLizze calls to them (this 
meant "Come and play") but Huff'n'Puff and 
Squeak just hold their heads high and when 
they reach shore they turn their backs on 
MaLizze and waddle up the path that leads 
to the chicken yard. 
MaLizze is left to play all by herself. 
The next day the same thing happens and the 
next day and the next day. 
MaLizze wants to ask them why they will not 
play with her. She follows them up the path 
that leads to the chicken yard. Squeak turns 
toward her "HSSSSSSSSSS" 
"HSSSSSSSSSS" echoes Huff'n'Puff and both ducks 
fly into the air and disappear into the bushes 
by the stream. MaLizze waddles into her coop 
and lets out a sad little honk. 
Days pass. MaLizze tries to play with the 
chickens, but they are afraid of the water. 
She tries to make friends with the tree swallows, 
but they are too busy feeding their new family. 
She tries eating new foods, but the farmer 
puts a fence around her favorite things. MaLizze 
just lays in her coop a very sad goose... 
There is only one thing left for her to do 
and that is to run away, but she wants to take 
one more look at her stream. Down the lonely 
path she slowly waddles and then she sees 
the reason why the ducks, Huff'n'Puff and Squeak 
had not played with her. 
Baby ducks are swimming on top of the water 
in her stream and, close beside them and 
inviting MaLizze to join them are her own special 
friends, Huff'n'Puff and Squeak. 
"Honk! Honk! Honk!" cries MaLizze and rushes to 
the water's edge. "Will they play with me?" she 
says. Huff'n'Puff and Squeak say Yes. MaLizze 
feels very happy and she never remembers thinking 
about running away.
